Audience Persona Builder

“Everyone” is not an audience. Answer five questions and get a one-page persona — the thing that decides whether a headline sounds like advice or an advert.

Why a persona changes your copy

“Small kitchen storage ideas” is written for nobody in particular. “Renter-friendly storage you can take with you” is written for someone with a specific constraint — and that person recognises themselves in it. The constraint is what makes the copy land, not the topic.

The blocker is the useful part

Most creators can describe who their audience is. Fewer can say what is in the way. The obstacle is where your angle comes from: no drilling, no budget, no time, no space. Lead with the obstacle and the pin stops being generic advice.

One persona, not five

A persona that describes everyone describes no one. Pick the one audience you can serve better than anyone else, and let the others find you later. Every extra persona dilutes the copy until it is back to “ideas”.

How to use Audience Persona Builder

  1. Describe the person in a sentence.
  2. Say what they want and what stops them.
  3. Write every pin as a reply to that person.
Questions

Audience Persona Builder FAQ

Do I need research to build one?

No, but read your own comments and saves. The words people use are the persona.

Can I have more than one?

You can, but write for one at a time. Mixed copy reads as generic.

How often should it change?

Rarely. If it changes every month it was never a persona, just a mood.
